South West Air Facebook Scam

A fake Southwest Airlines Facebook page named South West Air. has published a Facebook post and image that claims Southwest Airlines is giving away 2,000 first class flights for you and 5 of your friends to a destination of your choice around the world and $5,000 spending money. The post claims that if you comment “Thanks” and like their page that you will be entered into their giveaway.

The South West Air. Facebook page and content posted by the Facebook page are obviously false; However, many people are still falling for the South West Air scam. An easy way to debunk the South West Air scam is to understand that Southwest Airlines does not have first class seating on their airliners or first class customers. Southwest Airlines does have business select customers who have priority to board the airplane first – but they do not have first class seating. There is no such thing as Southwest first class seating, seats, or customers.

Another very easy way to debunk the South West Air scam is to realize that the name of the Facebook page is spelled wrong. The correct spelling for the company is Southwest Airlines. It would not be correct or professional for Southwest Airlines to title their Facebook page South West Air. because that is not the name of the company. The name South West Air seems to be taken from the permalink of the real Southwest Airlines Facebook page. The permalink to the real Southwest Airlines Facebook page is Facebook.com/SouthwestAir.

Fraudulent Facebook pages like the South West Air. Facebook page this usually lure in unsuspecting Facebook users with provocative giveaways in order to perform other scams in the future. For example, the Facebook page administrator or another Facebook account may message Facebook users whom have become duped by this scam and ask them for an advance payment in order to receive the vehicle.

The Facebook scam also acquires Facebook likes by tricking Facebook users. This helps the page seem legitimate to those duped by it.
