Hoax

Hoax: Whatsapp free voice calls

New hoaxes and scams claim that WhatsApp has the option of free calls. They say you can invite friends, send messages to friends, or perform another instruction to activate it. This is not true. It is just an example of a spam like hoax that circulates around the web and the messenger app.

This free WhatsApp call hoax comes to life after the company launched WhatsApp calling. WhatsApp calling actually uses data on both caller and receiver sides. A minute of WhatsApp call costs around 0.15 MB to 0.20 MB of 3G data. This means a 5-minute call will cost around 1MB of 3G network data. The call quality on a 3G network is decent, however, there is a considerable lag and a decrease in performance on a 2G network. Also, on 2G, a minute of WhatsApp call costs around 0.35MB which is higher than a 3G network.

There are many hoaxes and spam promoting untruthful content about the calls that can be made from WhatsApp. These hoaxes are mainly harmless spam, but some may contain malicious and potentially harmful links.

Some WhatsApp users may receive spam messages telling them to activate free calls by sending messages to a certain amount of people or groups. This is not true.

To activate calls all you need to do is visit the WhatsApp website and download v2.12.19.

Example

now whatssap has the option of free calls. Send this message to eight people or four groups and it will be activated.✅
P.s. It is true
